Della's Surgery (BEWARE.. SOME PICS ARE TOUGH TO LOOK AT!)

One of our two dogs, Della, had surgery for a torn ACL on Monday morning.  For those of you that don't know, we have two dogs Anna and Della. They are sisters, or liter mates as they sometimes call it.  Our Della is the fun-loving, sock stealing, tough girl, who will lick you to death, and will play and play and play until she literally collapses from exhaustion or tears a ligament in her knee as in this case.
When we decided to have the surgery we were under the impression that it was a "small incision" and she would not be any less lame then she was before the surgery.  When we picked her up we were quite surprised to see an incision with 10-15 stitches, black and blue, and of course shaved.  Ed and I both were very upset and hated to see her in any pain, let alone excruciating pain, and moaning all day long.
All in all she is handling everything in stride and improving hour by, and day by day.  Ed slept downstairs with her last night, and we were excited to see her with a sock in her mouth this morning.  This is one of her favorite things to do, and shows us she is on her way to a L-O-N-G recovery. Luckily, once again my Aunt Liz stayed to help us out with the boy and the dogs.  We couldn't have handled it all without her!

WARNING: THERE ARE PICTUREs OF HER INCISION AND IT IS PRETTY GROSS.

Sad Della just laying on her mattress.

Trying to find a comfortable position to sleep.
Yes, that is one of Caden's baby blankets she's cuddled up with.

Hobbling up and down the hallway to see what she's missing.

Mommy, when am I going to feel better?

Yucko!  I know the bruising is a positive sign of no clotting, and the stitches look good but it's still hard to look at.

Awww..... on the way back to our old Della~Bella!

A FEW EXTRA PICTURES OF US HANGING OUT WAITING FOR DADDY TO GET HOME FROM WORK.

Anna's been a bit needy lately since Della is getting a lot of attention.  Can you tell?

He's getting to be such a big boy!

  1. My co-worker's dog had to have 2 torn ACL's repaired. For months, she had to carry her dog with a blanket under his belly so he wouldn't put too much pressure on his leg. This was years ago so maybe you don't have to do that anymore??? Anyway, glad to hear Della is on the mend.

  2. Hey Rachel-
We do have to carry her up and down the stairs to go outside to go to the bathroom. We found that it's actually easier for Ed to just pick her up, but then she has to cross her legs all day till he gets home. And I thought kids were difficult. They're nothing compared to dogs!
