Winter Get a Way Weekend

This past weekend was one of the best weekends we've had in a long time.  We traveled to an amazingly beautiful cabin on 144 acres in Damascus, PA.  The weekend was shared with my three great friends and roommates from college and their families.  We really had nothing planned except for sitting around, catching up, staring at each other's kids, and of course sharing a few adult beverages.
We had a blast and look forward to going back next year.
Do you think we packed enough?  Problem is we literally used everything that we took.
Quick pit stop to feed the midget.

If you look through the trees you can see the house we were staying at.
Look closely.. a few friendly visitors welcomed us as we pulled up.

So we weren't exactly roughing it.
Everyone arrived and it was a lot of talking, laughing, unpacking, chasing kids, and just having fun.

Catching up after the little ones were all in bed.

Morning came way to quick and it was yet another day of fun.
We had some pretty amazing Dads on the trip with us.  At any give time you could look around the room and everyone had a baby in their arms.  Sometimes it was their own and sometimes it was someone else's.  What a cool feeling to know your kids are surrounded by people who care so much about them.

The major FAIL of the weekend was a broken coffee pot.  Luckily Annika figured out how to rig the pot up and boil water to get us our coffee that we all were in desperate need of.

After almost freezing to death the first night we put Eddie in charge of the fire and he did a great job.

Ed had an ingenious idea to help Jackson from hitting his head on the floor when he was rolling over.  Let's just say some ideas are better in theory..

Caden doing a bit of grinding work on Dadddy's leg.
Forget the toys, these water bottles were a big hit this weekend.

Look closely... Caden is in that huge bed.  We realized after the first night that our not so little boy was too big for the pack n play that we brought for him to sleep in.
Daddy decided to go keep him company
Saturday night we just had an appetizer night and we went a bit overboard.  Before we were all finished cooking everyone was completely stuffed from the appetizers that were already out.
Saturday night brought on a very competitive Taboo game that had us all crying from laughter at some point throughout the night.  I'm not sure what the final score was, but I'm pretty sure the girls kicked butt!

Look at Nikki laughing... Pile was hilarious and had a hard time describing every card he flipped over.

 Babies and Daddies

My sweet baby Jackson turned 6 months old while we were away.  Where has the time gone?
Avianna eating breakfast with her Daddy.
After breakfast Ed and I loaded up the boys and headed out for a walk.  Yes, those are sock on Caden's hands.  We couldn't find gloves and we were ready to go, so Momma improvised.

It was a bit chilly, but so cool to get our boys out and get some fresh air.  A weekend without cell phones or TV, only a few toys to play with, and romping around outside in the mud, driving in trucks and flying kites was just what the doctor ordered for our family.

Caden absolutely loved playing ping pong.  He got pretty good at it and started to strut around and get cocky.  It was hilarious to see.

Uncle Mike brought Caden a very cool airplane kite to fly, and Sunday afternoon was just the time to try it out.  There wasn't much wind, but they did their best to get it up in the sky, even if it was only for a few seconds.

While his big brother played outside, Jackson stayed in the warm and flirted with Ms. Avianna.
Can you blame him?  Look at those eyelashes!!

Then of course group pictures were in order.  They kids did a great job and were very cooperative.

Before we got our act together things were a big chaotic.
 Show no fear Pammy...

Still great friends after all these years.

These weekends are more and more difficult the older that we get and the larger that our families become.  People have many different obligations and it's not easy to pack all the kids up and travel a few hours to sit around and do nothing with old friends.  I cannot thank everyone enough for making the effort and contributing to such a great weekend.  I look forward to continuing this tradition with these friends that I cherish so much.
