2012 in Review

I've been trying to write this post for days now and as usual life got in the way.  Sick boys, a sick Daddy, and day to day life have kept us busy.  Regardless, we had a fantastic year and were lucky enough to do a lot of things as a family.
Ed is still in grad school and working long hours into the nights.  Caden is still the pickiest eater ever, loves animals, books, watching shows on the Kindle, jumping on the trampoline, cuddling with his taggy and drinking his milky.  He remains our sweet, sensitive little guys with a big ol' attitude some days.
Jackson is our energetic sweetheart.  He moves all day long and has a smile on his face the entire time.  He is a great eater and an even better sleeper.  He isn't into cuddling all that much, but he's coming around.  He loves to wear his sneakers and asks to have them on all the time.  He watches his brother all day long and wants to do whatever he is doing.  He also loves his taggy and still enjoys his bottles.

We cannot believe how quickly our boys are growing, but we are enjoying every single second of it.  Along with the ups this year we also had some downs, not only for our family but our entire area.  The good, the bad, and everything else in between was what made this year so great!!

1. JACKSON TURNED ONE!!
Our big boy is walking, chatting, running, smiling, and just getting into all kinds of little boy trouble.  He sleeps like a champ, eats much better than his brother, despite the fact that he only has five teeth.  He is always happy and just a job to be around!

2. TRIPS TO THE FARM
Just as we do every year, we take our trips across the road to the farm.  Over the years this place (and it's stench) have grown on me.  Granted some of the goats look like aliens, the boys love it and it's a fun place for us to check out the animals, or pick pumpkins, etc.

3. THE FERRY
This is the start and end of our vacations each year and Ed absolutely loves it.  I however, could take or leave the rocking of the boat and the fear that the boys are going to fall overboard.  However I do have to admit that at the end of the ride each year I'm glad that we did it.

4. THE OUTER BANKS
Along with the Ferry comes one of our absolute favorite times of the year, our trip to the Outer Banks. This is our week away, our escape, from work, grad school, tutoring, and everything else in life. This year was a very busy year with two little boys that were constantly, constantly moving.  We had so much fun and were thankful that the boys were able to spend so much time with our family and friends.

5. CADEN IS A BIG BOY
With both pride and tears I have to admit that Caden is in deed becoming a big boy.  Over the past year he has started going on the potty and also sleeping in a big boy bed.  He is talking more and more each day, understanding everything, and also giving us a run for his money. We love our big boys to pieces and only wish we could slow down time.

6. THE AQUARIUM
No matter how many times we go back, this is still one of our favorite stops.  Unfortunately we are unable to go for a little because Hurricane Sandy did a number on our beloved aquarium, but it is back and rest assured the Slatt boys will be back to check out the animals.

7. TRIPS TO THE BEACH
Last summer provided us once again with some great times at the beach.  The boys love being there and so do we.  Each and every single time we go to the beach we look like pack mules and struggle to get out on the sand, but after a few seconds we realize it's totally worth it.  The memories that we have shared on that beach will stay with us forever.

8. HURRICANE SANDY
We would be remiss if we did a re-cap of the year and did not mention the craziest storm that we have ever lived through, Hurricane Sandy.  This storm caused us to flee our house and head for Pennsylvania, and stay there for 10 days.  We returned to trees down, power outages, our board walk and beaches destroyed, and then it was followed by a Nor' Easter that caused us to lose power again.  Our towns and the entire Jersey Shore are currently working to rebuild and will for a long time to come.

9. DAMASCUS TRIP
This past year we took a trip with my friends from college to Damascus, PA.  This was one of the best trips we have taken with the boys.  We stayed in a beautiful cabin, ate delicious food, and just sat around and enjoyed each other's company.  These girls and their families are so much fun to be around, and I hope we are able to do it again soon.  The cabin will need to be just a bit bigger as we have added 2.5 babies since then.

10. BROTHERLY LOVE
These two little boys have shown us what brotherly love is all about over the past year.  It has been so much fun watching them begin to play together, fight together, laugh together, and just create memories for us day in and day out.  We love them dearly and are so thankful for them.

Goodbye to 2012 and here's to hoping 2013 is filled with just as many amazing memories!!
